The ROOF CONDITION
The brick elevator shaft on this Hamilton property had been taking damage for years. Water was getting into the masonry, freezing overnight, and expanding the bricks from the inside out.
Every freeze-thaw cycle made it worse. Mortar joints were crumbling, efflorescence was showing on the surface, and the building owner was stuck in a cycle of patching brickwork that kept failing. The shaft needed waterproofing that would stop the damage at the source rather than chasing it season after season.
The REPLACEMENT PROCESS
Rather than continuing to repair individual bricks as they failed, the approach was to seal the entire elevator shaft with a waterproofing membrane that would keep moisture out of the masonry permanently.
Our roofing contractors prepped the brick surface, applied the waterproofing system to the full shaft exterior, and sealed every joint and transition point where water had been finding its way in.

Years of freeze-thaw cycles had broken down the mortar joints and left the shaft exposed to ongoing water infiltration.

A full waterproofing membrane was applied to the elevator shaft exterior, sealing the masonry against moisture penetration.
