50+ Year Old Flat Roof with ‘Ponding ‘Problems
Water ponding on flat roofs are commonly caused by incorrect roof designs, inefficient sloping, degrading of materials, and the build up of silt on the roof surface. If left unfixed, water damage can lead to degradation of the roofing system and structural damage to the building which may be costly to repair.
Impact of Water Ponding
Project Location:
St. Catharines, ON
The Solution
The building owner sought our expertise to replace their 50 – 60 year old aging flat roof, that was made of Pitch (Tar) and causing water ponding and potential structural damage. We replaced the 7,500 sq.ft. aging roof with Built-Up Roofing (BUR) with extra drainage to eliminate the ponding issue.
Roof assessment and removal: Our team first conducted a thorough assessment of the existing roof to determine the extent of the damage and identify areas with water ponding issues. We then proceeded with the careful removal of the old pitch (tar) roof.
Drainage system improvement: Based on the roof assessment, we identified the best locations to install new drains to effectively eliminate water ponding. Our team installed several new drains, ensuring proper placement and functionality.
BUR installation: With the old roof removed and the new drainage system in place, our team installed the 7,500 sq.ft. BUR system. We followed industry best practices and used high-quality materials to ensure a durable and long-lasting roof.
Inspection and clean-up: Once the new BUR system was installed, our team conducted a final inspection to ensure the roof met industry standards and the client’s expectations. We also cleaned the work area, leaving the site in pristine condition.
