Think You Have an HVAC Issue?
Your HVAC Unit Isn’t the Problem (It’s Likely the Curb Underneath)
An HVAC curb is the raised, insulated frame the rooftop unit sits on. It keeps the HVAC above the membrane plane, takes the weight and the vibration, and gives the roofer something to flash and seal against.
When it fails, the leak shows up as a wet ceiling tile, and the HVAC contractor gets called first — even though the HVAC unit is almost always fine.

HVAC CURB REPAIR PROCESS
HVAC Curb Repair and Installation Pricing
HVAC curb repair runs $500 to $1,200 per unit and covers sealant failure, flashing repair, and membrane tie-in rebuild. Most repairs are completed in a single visit without disturbing the HVAC unit above.
New curb installation runs $1,000 to $3,000 per unit and includes sizing, framing, flashing, and full integration with the surrounding roof membrane. Every job is quoted as a fixed price after a free on-site assessment.
Size and frame the curb
We measure the HVAC footprint, size the curb to manufacturer spec, and frame it to the correct height above the membrane plane.
Set the curb and flash perimeter
The curb is fastened to the deck and flashed in continuous plies, fully integrated with the surrounding flat roof system.
Seal and tie into the membrane
Every transition between the curb, the flashing, and the roof membrane is sealed and tied in. The work is leak-tested before the HVAC unit is set.

What is an HVAC curb?
An HVAC curb is the raised, insulated frame that sits between your roof deck and a rooftop HVAC unit. It holds the unit above the membrane plane so water drains around it, supports the weight and vibration of the equipment, and gives the roofer something to flash and seal against. When a rooftop HVAC unit leaks, the curb is almost always the actual failure point.
Do I need to replace my HVAC unit to fix a curb leak?
No. The HVAC unit itself is almost always fine. The leak is at the curb, the flashing, or the membrane tie-in, and that’s where the repair happens. We rebuild the failed section without disturbing the unit above.
How long does an HVAC curb repair take?
Most curb repairs are completed in a single visit, usually in one day. Full curb replacements or larger projects involving membrane rework can run two to three days depending on scope. The HVAC unit stays in place throughout the repair in almost every case.
Can you install an HVAC curb for a new rooftop unit?
Yes. Videl installs new curbs for rooftop HVAC units on commercial and industrial flat roofs, sized to the equipment and tied into the roof membrane to manufacturer spec. We coordinate directly with your HVAC contractor so the curb is ready when the unit arrives.
Will adding or replacing an HVAC curb affect my roof warranty?
A curb installed correctly by a qualified commercial roofer will not void your membrane warranty, as long as the tie-in uses compatible materials and follows the manufacturer’s spec. We install to manufacturer standards and documents every job for warranty purposes.
